Unequally Yoked: Now What?

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial (the devil)? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 NIV

Okay, so you’ve read the scripture about not being yoked together with an unbeliever, but you’ve already made that mistake. What do you do now?

It’s very important to seek godly counsel. If you’re a believer and you’re yoked in a business partnership with an unbeliever, determine that as far as you’re concerned, you will prioritize following God in the business. You cannot make that choice for someone else. If there is a conflict, pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance or seek godly counsel from a pastor or mature believer.

If you’re married to an unbeliever, the Bible says you should remain married. More on that in 1 Corinthians 7:12-16.

If you’re a believer that is living with or dating an unbeliever, take the above Scripture to heart. God’s Word is more than some advice thrown out there for you to consider. He truly knows what’s best for you.

If you are living with or dating an unbeliever and have been together a long time or have children together, it would be wise to seek the advice of a godly pastor or mature believer who could counsel you by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit for which direction to move—whether toward marriage or moving apart.

The bottom line is that as a believer, you have a responsibility to turn from sin and obey God’s Word. Your life is a testimony to others. As a believer, you belong to God and ought to honor God with your body.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20  Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
